 Proper dosing and product reliability.

September 21, 2019 — 1:00 PM — Room B — Science/Medicine/Wellness

Presentation Abstract: Unlike conventional pharmaceuticals, making specific dosing recommendations for cannabis remains a challenge. Understanding the pharmacokinetics of any drug is essential to comprehend how quickly it will work, how long it will last, what metabolites it may produce, and the therapeutic or unwanted side-
effects which may occur. Unlike most pharmaceutical drugs which are usually an isolate of a single synthetic molecule, cannabis contains over 18 different classes of compounds including over 100 different cannabinoids along with terpenes, carbohydrates, fatty acids, and various other compounds all of which can contribute to its pharmacological effect. The bioavailability of cannabis is a complex process and is influenced by the route of administration, how cannabis is processed, along with the quality and complexity of an individual cannabis strain. We have certainly made progress in our understanding of how to effectively utilize cannabis therapy but much remains to be discovered.

Additionally, we are looking at novel ways to enhance the absorption and bioavailability of cannabis products to create a more effective and clinically consistent products for our end consumers.

About: Realizing the benefits of cannabis for patients with cancer and inflammatory bowel disease, Dr. Adam Abodeely, MD, MBA, FACS, FASCRS expanded his medical cannabis practice to include patients with a variety of medical ailments.
